LOGLINE:
Xiumei, a devoted nanny who has cared for her employer's son for decades, shares a close bond with him, forged through cherished memories and his favorite treat, rose ice jelly. However, as she is about to leave, the truth unfolds through photographs, revealing that their sweet moments are merely illusions crafted by her employer's real son, Junhao. Ultimately, the rose ice jelly becomes the only lasting connection to her past.
Inspiration:
Inspired by the story of Vivian Maier, a street photographer and family nanny, I turned my lens toward the often-overlooked figure in a household—the nanny. When you encounter a nanny who seems perpetually sad and silent, it's easy to assume that's just their nature; some people seem to be that way from birth. But what if that person once embraced life fully? What if they were a passionate photographer or a loving mother, carrying burdens you never imagined? Sometimes, all it takes is five minutes to listen to their stories, revealing countless hidden Vivians—each with their own struggles and untold tales. Rose Ice Jelly is Xiu Mei’s five minutes.
